Apache Ant is a Java-based build tool. In theory, it is kind of like make, without make's wrinkles. For easy data analysis process automation without a graphical user interface the Nimue platforms functionality can be interfaced in the form of ant tasks and types. This allows arbitray complex process automation described with a simple single ant xml file. Also all of core functionality of Ant is available and a java developper can easy extend the system with his own tasks and types.
The early stages of the Nimue platform are focussed on the mathematical algorithms, no GUI was implemented and controlling via ant was the most elegant way to work with the platform for non-JAVA developers.
At the current state of the platform, development is focussed on GUI components and there are no active users of the old ant controlled interface any more. That is why it is no longer maintained. A lot of functionality is implemented in the last years without implementing the correspondent ant wrapper code.
The deprecated code base is available open sourced to have a look how it works and in principle it is easy to complete the ant interface for the newer functionality.
